Big Fish Helpful Hints
Please no office stop by visits. Email or call to set an appointment if you need to speak with us or drop something off.
Always look professional – at auditions, at meetings, at rehearsal, on location and when you come to Big Fish. Put your best foot forward. You only get one chance to make a first impression.
Make sure we have current contact information. Keep us aware of changes in address & phone number. Email is crucial!!
When leaving a phone message for us, please state who it is for, what it is regarding, your name and say your telephone number slowly. Please keep the message concise and to the point.
Always check your email, cel phone & voice mail. It is imperative. You could miss out on great opportunities by not doing this one simple thing.
When we leave a voice mail or email, please respond immediately. Most auditions are first come, first serve.
Remember to include us in your travel plans. Notify us when you are going out of town or will be unavailable for a period of time.
If you make personal changes like hair cut, hair color, facial hair, weight gain or loss, teeth straightening or anything of that nature, please make us aware and get headshots that are truly representative of who you are and what you currently look like.
We are happy to help you choose headshots from your contact sheet when and if we can. Please understand yours are probably not the only set of pics we are looking at. Please narrow your choices as much as possible and allow us time to peruse.
Speaking of pics, it is imperative we have enough (25) on hand at the office, but more important that you have enough on your person at all times. Always bring at least two headshots and resumes to every audition and have an ample supply in your car.
In addition to headshots and resumes, it is a good idea to have clothing options and a couple of different hats or hair accessories in your car. You never know!
Actor’s resumes are very different from business resumes. Please know the difference and format accordingly. Please be honest on your resume. If you list a skill, be 100% sure you can do it and legitimately do it well.
Please have your resume attached to or printed on the back of your headshot before you supply us with them or bring them to an audition.
Access to a reliable fax machine (Kinkos or King Soopers not acceptable) is important.
Understand we only make a living when you do. We do not withhold auditions from anyone. If you are right for the role, we will submit you. It is in all our best interests.
Audition etiquette:
Come memorized, well prepared and dressed appropriately.
Make sure you have the address and directions before you leave for your audition. A cel phone call from your car 10 minutes before your scheduled appointment does not shine favorably on you.
Be on time, which means 5 minutes, but no more than 10 minutes early.
Be respectful of others auditioning as well as other business that may be taking place in the building. Keep conversation to a minimum and at the lowest decibel level.
Ask the sign in person as few questions as humanly possible. If you are well prepared this should be an easy task.
Do not ask the auditor if you can “go early” unless your it is an absolute emergency. Your scheduled time is the time you are scheduled.
Be friendly, but not familiar with casting people. Treat them like the professionals they are while they are working.
Please do not “hang out” after auditions. We’re thrilled you all enjoy each other’s company, but casting is a business and you want to be as professional as possible.
Auditions at Big Fish are professional as well. Please be respectful of everyone’s time and office space. Please do not use this as an opportunity for Q&A or for schmoozing those that may be present.
When you get a call back, it is a great idea to wear the same thing you wore to the first audition, unless otherwise stated. Wear your hair & makeup the same as well.
Please do not ask for feedback from auditions. We do not get it. The only time we do hear something, it is generally negative. So we like to say no news is actually very good news. Also, please do not call us and ask, “Who got the part?”. It is a waste of your energy. Instead focus on what you did right, or wrong, and work on your game. Remember you are uniquely you and the next job is yours for the taking.
Once you have the job, you probably want to get a copy for your reel. Please understand this is your responsibility. The best way to do this is to bring a a blank dvd and a self addressed appropriately stamped envelope to set with you. Feel free to also include a gift card of encouragement. In as unobtrusive way as possible, ask your contact person who you should hand the dvd to for reel material. Please only do this when opportunity arises and not disturbing the shooting process.
Nurture, encourage & respect yourself and each other! We believe in you!
